What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effect of these disorders on the nervous system and general health. Treatment is preformed typically by hand only and with active involvement of the patient. Anyone at any age can benefit from chiropractic care, from cradle to grave. Even if you are not in pain, chiropractic care is here to help you thrive. Here at Reform we utilize corrective exercises, soft tissue therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and education to reduce pain and improve function and total well-being.

Commonly Treated Conditions

  • Neck + Back Pain

Most neck and back pain is caused by a mechanical problem, rather than a structural problem such as spinal curvatures or stenosis. Nerve irritation typically is occurring that is causing pain in your neck or back. This can commonly be alleviated with specific movements, soft tissue work, as well as a chiropractic adjustment.

  • Headaches

Headaches are common, but they are not normal. There are multiple triggers that may cause headaches. Often there is a correlation to the cervical (neck) region of the spine even if you are not particularly experiencing neck pain. Dr. Kaylee will help to address lifestyle factors that may be contributing to headaches along with chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and movement therapy to help reduce the frequency and intensity of your headaches and help you prevent them in the future.

  • Radicular Pain

Radicular pain is pain that radiates along a nerve due to irritation of that nerve. Radicular symptoms may manifest as numbness and tingling, burning, sharp pain, and/or a constant achiness into the arms and hands or legs and feet. These symptoms can be a bit concerning for those experiencing them, but with chiropractic care pressure can be taken off the nerve to reduce those sensations.

  • Vertigo

Vertigo is the sensation that you or the environment around you is moving or spinning. These “dizzy-spells” can be very subtle or so severe that you cannot sit upright. This feeling of unsteadiness can be accompanied by ringing in the ears, transient hearing loss, and/or feeling nauseated in some cases. There are two main type of vertigo, peripheral and central. Peripheral vertigo can often be treated with specific exercises and movements of the head performed by a chiropractor.

  • TMD

Temporomandibular joint disorders can cause pain and popping of the jaw with chewing, talking, yawning, etc. This pain and dysfunction may be the result of a disorder of the joint itself or of the muscles that control the movement of the joint. A lot of times it is unclear what caused the symptoms to begin. The goal with manual therapy is to restore normal movement and function of the joint and reduce pain.

  • Extremity Pain

Chiropractors can treat other common conditions outside of the spine, such as shoulder and knee pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and trigger finger to name a few. Often after an assessment it is found that some extremity pain may actually be originating from the spine. Even if the spine is ruled out as a contributing factor, the joint in question can still be addressed with non-invasive treatments. The ultimate goal is to uncover where the real problem lies so that we can address it head on.

  • Chiropractic care during pregnancy

So many changes are occurring during pregnancy. As your belly grows your center of gravity shifts effecting your gait and posture. More pressure is felt through the low back. As the pregnancy progresses hormones slowly begin to cause ligaments to relax to prepare for delivery. Your body is experiencing stress in a brand-new way, and you may start compensating for these changes. This may result in pain that can’t be treated with medication during pregnancy. Our goal is to relieve pain associated with pregnancy and encourage proper alignment for delivery.

  • Chiropractic Care for Babies

Birth can be a traumatic process for both mom and baby. You may notice that your little one likes to tilt their head or look in a certain direction. They may only like to nurse on one side. Maybe you notice they tend to arch their back when they are held close to your body. These all may be signs that there is already tension and strain through their developing musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Gentle chiropractic techniques can be utilized to addresses these imbalances causing discomfort, boost their overall health, and reduce interference within their nervous system as they continue to develop.

  • Chiropractic Care for Children

It may be hard to understand the benefits of chiropractic care during childhood as children typically aren’t complaining of pain. Their bodies are going through so many changes as they grow. They take tumbles and falls while learning to walk or taking on a new sport. Proper alignment of the spine allows for undisrupted communication between the brain and body through the spinal cord. This connection controls every function of the body from walking and talking, to healing from injuries, and every function of every organ and tissue. Childhood is the best time to begin working towards optimal health, that includes spinal health.

  • Stress/Anxiety

Most will experience some type of stress and/or anxiety at some point in their life. Stress can be beneficial in some situations, but other times it can have a negative impact on our health. Stress and other mental health concerns may manifest as muscle tension, pain, headaches, and poor sleep habits. With chiropractic care we can address those symptoms and restore proper function as well as discuss your nutrition and sleep habits among other lifestyle factors.

  • Injuries/trauma

Auto accidents, on-the-job injuries, lifting injuries, slip and fall injuries, sports/athletic injuries all must be followed up with appropriate rehab to improve function, reduce pain, and prevent scar tissue formation. While some injuries may require surgical intervention, many respond well to chiropractic care such as whiplash, a sprained ankle, and disc problems to name a few.

Wellness Care

Your nervous system controls every function of you body, from walking and talking, to thinking and breathing. The spinal cord connects to the brain to the rest of the body, sending hundreds of billions of signals to all parts of the body each second. This lies with the spinal column, which is made up of vertebrae that provide the base of support for your body, protect the spinal cord and allow for you to do things like bend and twist. Misalignments of the spine can cause disruption in the communication of the nervous system causing pain and dysfunction. Regular chiropractic care can help maintain freedom from interference to allow each system in the body to function optimally so that you may better adapt to the world around you, avoiding injury and dis-ease. Your body is incredible and has the ability to heal with minimal intervention when the nervous system is functioning at its high capacity.
